B.V.V.Sangha’s Shri. S. R. Kanthi Arts, Commerce and Science College is situated in Mudhol township, surrounded by rural areas. Most of the students admitting to this college, hails from the families which have agriculture as their main source of living. Considering this, to inculcate knowledge to these students in Science, the Science section was established in the year 1992, already Arts and Commerce sections were started in the year 1982. In Science, Zoology is introduced as one of the optional subjects, in the year 1992 as an academic discipline. It was started with few students opting this subject as one of the combination group i.e. C.B.Z. Sri. C.G.Hiremath was the founder department head worked upto1998-99 Later Smt.V.R. Basaraddi joined the department in 1999 After that Sri. A. H. Hiremath Joined to department in the year of 2000 Since then both will take care of entire department related work. The department aims to equip the students with the knowledge which can enable them to compete in the state and national level competitive examinations especially Indian Forest Service examination. The department also strives to train the students for Post Graduate studies in Zoology, Bio-technology, Bio-chemistry, etc. Department also provides the knowledge of Environmental studies, Sericulture, Vermiculture, Apiculture, Aquaculture, Diary Science, Poultry Science as a subsidiary income and also self-employed youth in future. so that it is used by the students to practice in their agriculture. Department also creates awareness of environment, conservation of natural resources and conservation of bio-diversity.
